SMS Program & Opt-In Disclosure

This page documents how Watts Market collects consent before sending any text message, so customers, employees, and carrier compliance reviewers can verify our opt-in flows. Messages are sent from +1 (661) 744-2401 on behalf of Watts Market, 801 Watts Drive, Bakersfield, CA 93307.

  • Message types: for customers — collected as TWO separate opt-ins: (a) account texts (order and pickup alerts, account notices) and (b) marketing texts (special offers, promotions, discounts, loyalty rewards); for employees — shift schedules, task reminders, payroll and bonus notifications, and urgent store alerts.
  • Frequency: varies, typically 1–5 messages per recipient per week.
  • Cost: message and data rates may apply.
  • Opt out / help: reply STOP to any message to unsubscribe, or HELP for help. Customers can also turn SMS off in their profile (Profile → Notifications); employees can ask a manager to disable SMS on their account.
  • Opt-in confirmation: every completed opt-in receives a one-time confirmation text: “Watts Market: You're opted in to recurring texts. Msg frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel.
  • Privacy: mobile numbers and SMS consent are never shared with or sold to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. See our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
  • Content & eligibility: messages never promote alcohol, tobacco, vaping, firearms, cannabis, or other age-restricted products, and contain no sweepstakes, contest, or gambling content. You must be 18 or older to opt in.

Customers opt in on our public signup page, wattsmarket.org/signup, which anyone can view without logging in. There are two separate, independent consent checkboxes — marketing consent is collected on its own checkbox, never bundled with account texts. Both are unchecked by default, optional, and not required to create an account. Each full disclosure is printed next to its checkbox, with links to the Privacy Policy and Terms:

I agree to receive recurring account text messages from Watts Market at the phone number provided — order and pickup alerts, and account notices. Consent is not a condition of any purchase. Message frequency varies; message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help.

Employees receive operational messages only. During onboarding, the employee signs a printed SMS consent form — the exact form is publicly viewable at wattsmarket.org/sms-opt-in/employee-consent-form — which carries this consent language:

I agree to receive recurring operational text messages from Watts Market at the mobile number I provided above — shift schedules, task reminders, payroll and bonus notifications, and urgent store alerts. Consent is not a condition of employment. Message frequency varies; message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time, HELP for help.

A manager then enters the number into our internal admin system, which texts a one-time verification code; the employee confirms the code to prove possession of the phone. No message is sent until both the signed form and the verification are complete. The signed original is retained in the employee’s onboarding file.

Employees can also complete the same opt-in themselves inside the staff app. On first sign-in the app presents the identical disclosure above, records the employee’s agreement with a timestamp and the exact disclosure text, then texts a one-time verification code to the number the employee entered; the employee confirms the code to prove possession. Declining leaves texts off. Employees can turn texts off or back on at any time in the app’s notification settings, or by replying STOP.
