Who we are
Watts Market is a convenience store at 801 Watts Drive, Bakersfield, California 93307. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to people who shop at our store, hold an account with our customer credit and loyalty program, and to our employees.
Information we collect
We collect only information that we need to run the store and our customer + employee programs. That includes:
- Name, mobile phone number, and email address.
- Account credentials (PIN or password) and login activity.
- Customer credit-account balance, purchase history, payments, and loyalty rewards.
- Employee records: shift schedule, time-card data, pay rate, and notes from store management.
- When you use our employee app, approximate location at the moment of clock-in or clock-out, used solely to confirm you are at the store. Location is not tracked between clock events.
- Standard web request data (IP address, browser, device type) for security and abuse prevention.
How we use your information
- To run your customer credit and loyalty account and tell you about activity on it.
- To send operational SMS, email, and in-app notifications related to your account, tasks, or shifts.
- To run payroll, time-card auditing, and other internal employee operations.
- To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access.
- To comply with tax, accounting, and other legal obligations.
SMS messaging
When you opt in to SMS — either by checking the consent box during customer signup, or by being verified as an employee in our internal system — Watts Market may send text messages to the phone number you provided. Message types include, for customers: account updates, loyalty rewards, special offers and promotions, and order and store alerts; and, for employees: operational notifications (shift assignments, task reminders, bonus and payroll notifications, urgent store alerts). Message frequency varies and is typically one to five messages per recipient per week. Message and data rates may apply.
You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message. Reply HELP to receive our contact phone number. You may also disable SMS from within the Watts Market customer app (Profile → Notifications) or, for employees, by asking a manager to disable SMS on your account in the internal admin app.
We will not share, sell, rent, or transfer your mobile phone number or SMS consent information to any third party or affiliate for marketing or promotional purposes. Your mobile information stays with Watts Market.
How we share information
We do not sell personal information. We share data only when we have to, and only with the minimum necessary parties:
- Our SMS provider (Twilio Inc.) to deliver text messages to your phone.
- Our point-of-sale system (ComCash) for credit-account and purchase data, kept on equipment at the store.
- Service providers who help us run the store (payment processors, tax and accounting professionals) only to the extent needed to perform their work.
- Law enforcement or other parties when we are legally required to do so.
Data retention
We keep account information while your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterward to meet tax, accounting, and legal obligations (typically three to seven years). Time-card and payroll records are kept for at least four years to comply with California labor law. If you opt out of SMS, we keep a record of the opt-out indefinitely so you do not get re-enrolled by mistake.
Security
We store data on hardware in the store and in encrypted form on servers we control. Account passwords are stored as bcrypt hashes; we cannot read them. We restrict internal access on a need-to-know basis. No system is perfectly secure, however — if you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.
Children
Our services are not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
California residents
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, you have the right to know what personal information we have about you, request that we delete it, and not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell personal information. To exercise your rights, contact us using the information below — we will respond within 45 days as required by law.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top. Material changes will be communicated in-app or by SMS to opted-in users.
